A fabulous review of a HanJan pattern to share with you today - the lovely Pink Apple Peony has shared the most gorgeous pictures of  my Soft Ruffle Shell Scarf. It seems to have been a firm favourite over the Xmas period, it's such a quick and easy gift to make and looks far more complicated than it actually is!

Simply Crochet Luxury Love and a Christmas Crochet Challenge for HanJan!

Simply Crochet Magazine Issue 13
So much love this month for the luxurious Simply Crochet issue! It is jam-packed with gorgeous projects perfect for getting over the massive rush of Christmas crafting... there is a wonderful story that indulges in a luxury bedroom just for you. I was lucky enough to design a rug using the most beautiful yarn - chunky, soft and squiggy - it feels amazing under your toes!

Alongside that, there is my cute design for the 'LOVE HOOK' mitts on the front cover! Again, another little treat that take hardly any time to whip up and you can personalise them any way you like...... go on, be adventurous!

In other HanJan news...a fab little(!) project from my little brother..... 'Hannah, can you make me into an Advent calendar for the Wear you Xmas Jumper to Work Day?!'

It's not an official pattern but was so much fun I thought I'd share it with you.

Our Advent Calendar Christmas Jumper!

Here's how we did it...

  • Nick bought a cheap jumper to fit him in dark green but you can use any colour you like. (I didn't have enough time to make a whole jumper!)
  • I made 24 small and 1 large rectangles in dc (sc for US) rows in red.
  • I then added the numbers using surface crochet - I didn't use a pattern as quite liked that they look like handwriting. The large rectangle was number 25 in case you were wondering...
  • We then sewed the rectangles on to the jumper leaving the top open to create little pockets.
  • Then we simply added sweets and chocolates (which I don't recommend as they melted!), and the whole of the office got to take their pick from him! The beer and bow were added at some point later I think and weren't part of the design but you get the idea..!

And just before I go - I have been lucky enough to come across another lovely blogpost about my fingerless mitts....check it out here: Stitching and Hooking Passions Blog

Deck the Halls with Crocheted Owls!!!

Last week was a fantastic first for HanJan - a teaching session! I spent 3 wonderful hours teaching 12 very lovely women how to crochet. It was so much fun!

With Christmas fast approaching I thought we would get into the festive spirit and also I was aware that some of the people attending had never even picked up a hook before, so we set about making some little Christmas Owls to hang on the tree.....

They are the cutest little things and I'm so pleased to say that everyone managed really well to make their own.

The session was held in the hospital where I work as part of a social and fundraising scheme we are involved in so was all for a good cause too! I thought I would share a few snaps of the teaching fun...

As you can see - so much fun all round!

Autumn Flowers Blanket Crochet Pattern and HanJan Ravelry News...

A busy week in the land of HanJan....a gorgeous new pattern bursting with Autumnal colours and the start of HanJan on Ravelry! About time I hear you say! I know, I know.... So far I've only managed to load four patterns onto the website but I promise I will get the rest up and running as soon as I can.

So...introducing the new pattern -

Autumn Flowers Blanket by HanJan...

An amazing alternative gift

This gorgeous blanket is just the ticket for anyone wanting to steer away from the more traditional and give a really precious yet modern look for a new baby.

The blanket is perfect as a light decorative blanket, make it in whatever colours you like! It is a series of flowers joined together with a scalloped petal edging. Perfect for using up leftover yarn and a great 'on the go' project as is worked in small flowers until they are ready to join.

The finished blanket as shown measures 85cm by 72cm but you can easily add or subtract flowers to make it any size you like....I quite fancy a big version of it as a throw for my bed!

Crochet Skill Level - Intermediate.

The flowers themselves are easy peasy, it just takes some skill and lots of patience to join them altogether - well worth the effort though!

The textured border detail makes the blanket unique

Hope you like it! Coming next from HanJan - some cute baby Kimono style cardigans, some jam jar covers, towel edgings and coat hangers, great for gifts and I promise I'll get the rest onto Ravelry.....

HanJan Fingerless Mitts and Boot Cuffs in Simply Crochet...

Simply Crochet Issue 10
It's so hard to believe that the wonderful Simply Crochet is on issue 10 already! It doesn't seem 5 minutes since I was designing some jam jar covers for issue 2!

This fabulous edition features a few HanJan designs - a cute bow headband, some boot cuffs and some fingerless bobble gloves. The gloves have gone down a storm!

Beautiful Bobble Mitts by HanJan

I tried to stay away from the boring designs that are out there an opted for something a little different - hence the bobbles. The pattern is really straightforward as a repetition of rows joined with a seam and a cute little edging in a contrast colour.....easy peasy.

Loads of people have said that they are making a stash of them for Xmas stocking fillers - such a great idea. These are the pictures I have come across so far... would love to see more if they are out there!

The lovely The Little Room of Rachell has written a little bit about the pattern and has some great tips on it too - you really can adapt the mitts to suit you by changing the length and width or the size of the thumb hole.

If you fancy a go at the pattern then grab your copy of issue 10 or you can get my similar but not the same pattern from Etsy (this pattern has the same bobbles design but no edging) almost as cute!

Get the pattern here!

Lots of exciting projects ahead - will be back soon with an Autumn Flowers's a sneaky peek...

Mollie Makes and new Weave Blanket from HanJan!

I am so excited to see my pattern for the super cute crochet sneakers in this months issue of Mollie Makes #31. The project was so much fun to do and the team at Mollie Makes were fantastic and let my imagination run wild with theirs!

The sneaker pattern is in the magazine which is jam-packed with wonderful crafty loveliness (as always...). The baby pattern is for 0-6 month old little feet and then there is an adult version of it for sizes 3-5, 6-8 and 9-11 (UK sizes). They are such a cute gift to make and whip up in no time. You can personalise by adding whatever colour combo you want and then topping with any fabric from your stash you like.... or maybe it's just a good excuse to go shopping for more! That's what I told my other half anyway!

The magazine is on sale now and is available online or at most major magazine stockists.

Next up from HanJan....crazy crafting has been underway for our wedding which is this Saturday...eeek! Photos to follow but the patterns are staying a secret I'm afraid. I deliberately didn't write them down so that it can never be repeated and we have a totally unique day. Watch this space!

Rustic Bobble Blanket - new crochet pattern from HanJan

A great new pattern to share with you today! This blanket was designed for a very trendy young man called Samuel, he's just 5 weeks old now and is just adorable! I was trying to find a way to have a soft, fun, modern and natural looking blanket that can be treausured forever and I think I've managed it.

The pattern is all about textures and uses lots of fun bobbles and alternate use of front and back loops so that you never get bored making it!

The finished blanket as shown measures 90cm by 90cm but you can easily increase or decrease your start chain to make it any size you like. I am tempted to make a big one as a sofa throw to keep for myself!

It uses a 5mm crochet hook so grows nice and quickly and has a lovely drape to make it soft. You will need about 300g of double knit yarn in Buff, and 100g each of a Soft Grey and Moss Green, although you can use whichever colours you would like to.

If you would like the pattern then follow the link  to Etsy (pattern priced at £2.49)

Bathroom, Boots and Jester Hats...

Simply Crochet Issue 3
Simply Crochet Issue Three is in the shops now and I'm so pleased to say it has more HanJan patterns in it for you! The fab magazine has loads of patterns and ideas and they have chosen to feature my baby buckle shoes in the most gorgeous colours along with some towel edgings and soap saver bag that I designed for their ' Bathing Beauties' section.

Bath towel crochet edgings by HanJan

A super cute new pattern launched today by HanJan - Jester Tassel Hats. These came from a design of a Santa style hat I made with springy spirals instead of a bobble and I just couldn't resist making a jester style pattern by just adding another point to the hat!

Jester Tassel Hats by HanJan
So, the hats are deceptively easy to make - no tricky shaping, you just start at the bottom and work your way up to one point then join the yarn in again and make the other point. The tassels are so easy and you can make them as long or short or colourful as you like.

The great thing about the design is that the soft double knit yarn means that the points don't stand on end but flop over - so adorable on little ones! The pattern comes in 3 sizes, newborn, baby and child (up to 4 years).

They are worked with a 6mm crochet hook so have plenty of stretch in them and grow really quickly when you are making them too! They use about 70g of double knit yarn (50g of the main colour and 20g of the contrasting one).

If you want to make a Jester Tassel Hat, or 2.... then follow the links below:

I have so much on the go at the moment... 3 baby blankets, 2 baby shoes designs, kimono style cardigans, mittens and so much more, plus I am starting to think about getting crafty for my wedding which is in September - so many ideas to keep me busy!

Rave Reviews of HanJan Patterns!

A fabulous week for HanJan - still riding high on the contributions to Simply Crochet Issue 2 and now some fantastic reviews of my bestselling patterns!

My Zigzag Blanket and Baby Ugg Style Boots have always been great selling patterns mostly from them being pinned and repinned so much! I thought I might share some of the lovely comments that have been left about them...

Danielle of glitter-bug-blog has left a great review of the Baby Boots and some great photos too....just love the busy bee buttons!

'Then came my next project, I was trying to find a free pattern for a cute pair of baby boots but was unsuccessful in finding the level of cuteness I wanted for free so I had to buy a pattern. BOY oh BOY and I glad I did, I purchased the Baby Wrap Around ‘Ugg’ style baby bootie from HanJanCrochet on Etsy and I am so wonderfully pleased at how they turned out. Hannah was just the most wonderful person to deal with and helped me out with detailed emails explaining the parts I didn’t understand. I had the pattern in my inbox the next morning when I woke up. I was so pleased I started straight away, I did have a few hiccups but that was purely because I am not very advanced in understand the terms of crochet and Hannah was more than helpful, she emailed me back in great time and was always kind and informative. I could not have found a better seller to make my first Etsy purchase from and they price was more than reasonable!!!
The booties turned out so adorable,  that after the first pair I made a second to go with the blanket! Aren’t they adorable. If you want a copy of the pattern just head to Hannah’s Etsy shop!'
